Absolute cheapest WiFi module!

After playing with this for a while, I’ve found it to be quite competent, able to connect to WPA2 networks effortlessly. Very quick link time, too.

The AT command set is awkward to automate, but not impossible. It’s also very difficult to communicate at high speed bi-directionally without stomping on your data… But if you’re looking for a few packets here and there, this is great!

I can’t believe it actually works… And it works surprisingly well. Nothing like this exists to my knowledge. Small, cheap, great!

Great item for a decent price. Complete wifi functionality can connect to infrastructure, run as access point, both simultaneously.
Easy to configure and connect to uC using AT commands.
Really like it.

Just perfect! I got the new version and it’s working fine (limited functionality but more to come).
Fast shipping with prepaid vat, to EU was a +++

I want to setup a static ip address(I do not have a dhcp server in my network), I can’t find one AT command to set the IP address of client in Station mode(1).

Cool little wifi module. Make sure you read all the material available on the use of this device to save you frustration. Very useful once you get it working. For the price you cant go wrong.

Can anyone share the wiring for the pins, especially the middle four pins?
Different websites provide different instructions.

Great product and shipping time was far quicker than usual(china)!

Excelling wifi module with built-in microcontroller. Wireless projects with just 1 very small board.

Some extra info on this versatile device can be found on https://nurdspace.nl/ESP8266 and http://www.esp8266.com. One can also replace the firmware by a FreeRTOS or NodeMcu (Lua) port. Note that only a few pins are available, so you may want to consider ordering one of the other packages (e.g. SMD) instead.

Great little piece of hardware! Although the support is still experimental and spread all over the internet, this WiFi module is easy to get working, and adds wireless internet connectivity to your project for a ridiculous low price!
The best way to get it work and familiarize with this chip is to control it directly from a serial terminal using a USB-UART module.
Also, don’t forget to flash the latest firmware on the chip.

nice unit… cant believe the price of wifi connectivity these days.. so cheap.. had no problems flashing with new firmware either..works a treat..
electrodragon rock.. fast delivery and great service form chao.. havn’t had a problem in the 3 years ive been using them.

Very nice module. Got two of these and loaded the NodeMCU Lua firmware on them, and wow, they really are worth all the buzz around them. Ensure you use a proper UART device (eg FTDI FT232 or similar) with proper level-shifting if required. Other than that, solid modules!
